After 24 days, Google’s November core update has finally finished rolling out. Having started on November 11, 2024, the update was marked as complete on December 5, 2024.
This is later than expected, with many believing it would end ahead of the Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend. Google’s official status update said it would take up to two weeks to complete – instead, the rollout took just over three weeks.
What Do We Know?
Google’s November 2024 core update is a standard algorithm update, working to improve its rankings and search results for users. When announcing the start of the update, Google shared this information:
“This update is designed to continue our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search.”
During the last few weeks, the SEO community has reported on the ongoing volatility in the SERPs, though volatility trackers appear to show things calming down again as of today.
It’s been a busy time for the search engine. Since the rollout began at the start of November, Google’s been faced with the potential breakup of Chrome. Plus, Google revised its site reputation abuse policy, resulting in sites like Forbes Advisor getting hit by manual penalties. So, what will happen now the core update has ended?
If you saw any dramatic fluctuations to your site’s rankings during this rollout, hold fire and see how things settle now that the rollout has finished. Then, assess your page positions and identify any areas where you can add value for your readers and customers.
