Hostinger’s report on the best cities in the US for freelancers considered a wide range of factors, including tax rates for the self-employed, average revenue, community co-working spots, living expenses, and download speeds. Based on their performance against these research areas, Hostinger has ranked the top 10 cities:

2. Las Vegas, Nevada
3. Nashville, Tennessee
4. San Francisco, California
5. Boston, Massachusetts
6. Los Angeles, California
7. Austin, Texas
8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
9. Houston, Texas
10. Denver, Colorado

According to Hostinger, Miami is the best city for freelancers. There’s no self-employment tax, and you can choose from hundreds of co-working spaces – the city really caters to freelancers.

Besides Miami, other top cities include San Francisco, which has the best average income rate, Nashville, for its cheap living costs, and Los Angeles, which has the largest community of freelancers.

But, if you’re torn between states, then California and Texas have the most representation in Hostinger’s top 10 list.

Hostinger’s study into the best US cities for freelancers shows that tax, income, and community influence where freelancers plant their roots.

• Miami, Nashville, and Houston all have zero self-employment tax, while Las Vegas freelancers benefit from a 0% state income tax
• All of the top cities have growing freelancer communities – Los Angeles offers the best environment for collaboration and networking, with 805 co-working spaces
• Nashville, Austin, Philadelphia, and Houston have some of the lowest living costs, which is ideal if you’re just getting your business started
• Las Vegas and San Francisco are your best bet for increasing revenue

Hostinger’s Head of SEO, Aurimas Gudavičius, noted that freelancers “succeed in cities that are affordable, provide strong earning potential, and accessible resources.” And, while all of these cities offer plenty of benefits for freelancers, you’ll want to weigh up which factors matter the most for your business, such as working spaces and tax.
