After rolling out newsletter upgrades last year, LinkedIn is increasingly focusing on video content in the wake of TikTok’s potential US ban. But is it worth your time, and how can you add videos to your LinkedIn profile?
Below, I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step and explain why you should be interested in diversifying your LinkedIn content to increase engagement.
How To Create and Add LinkedIn Videos
Creating and adding a new video to your LinkedIn profile is incredibly easy. I tested this feature myself and it only took a couple of minutes to create a polished video to post on my feed. You can follow along with the steps below:
- Start a new post on the LinkedIn homepage
- Select the “Media” icon in the post box (this looks like a picture)
- Choose a video from your library or record a new video – it must be at least three seconds long
- Edit your video using LinkedIn’s tools – the video editor gave me the option to edit the clip, add text to my video in a variety of styles, and choose to add automated closed captions
- Write your post to accompany the video – there’s no character limit
- Post your video right away or schedule it for a later date

LinkedIn Leans Into Video
According to LinkedIn, video creation on the social platform has increased by 100% and uploads have gone up by 36% since last year. It’s obvious that interest in video media continues to grow, so it’s not surprising to see LinkedIn leaning into the format for 2025.
In March 2024, LinkedIn added a vertical video feed to rival the popularity of video-focused channels like TikTok and YouTube. The “Video” icon is in the bottom bar of the app screen. This gives users already familiar with TikTok a similar scrolling satisfaction when browsing LinkedIn.
Unfortunately, LinkedIn lacks any program or rewards for creators, so the incentive to post on the platform isn’t as strong as it is on competitors. That said, posting videos can increase engagement and reach for your business, and it’s a great way to capture a viewer’s attention quickly.
