The search landscape remains uncertain with the March 2025 core update still rolling out. Google commented that it should take a couple of weeks to complete, but there’s no fixed end date.

So, how are the SERPs reacting so far? The SEO community and businesses have noticed a few changes in rankings, but the SERPs seem relatively calm for now. But, knowing Google, I’m sure things will heat up again soon.

📢 March 2025 core update announced

Google announced its March 2025 core update on March 13, making it the first core update of 2025. The algorithm update will focus on presenting more relevant content in search results and supporting creators.

Volatility in the SERPs

The ups and downs I reported on in February remain as we approach the end of March, with various trackers showing the fluctuating volatility in the SERPs:

As you can see from the above screenshots, we’ve seen some spikes in volatility throughout 2025 – before an official core update was even announced. And, some trackers aren’t reporting any extreme volatility post-update.

So far, we’ve reported on the following Google search updates in 2025:

How Can Your Business Prepare?

After anticipating an algorithm shift since last year’s December core update, businesses and website owners are understandably uneasy as they await to see what the March 2025 core update has in store for them. Will it be an increase in rankings? Will traffic drop dramatically?

Unfortunately, it’s too soon to tell. As I often advise, it’s best to continue with your current strategies and focus on publishing high-quality and relevant content for your target audience. Once the rollout is complete, you’ll be able to identify areas for improvement and next steps based on how your website settles in the SERPs.

Have you noticed any volatility or movements with your website?
