Despite the TikTok ban still being a potential threat, businesses haven’t slowed down when it comes to creating engaging content that reaches new audiences online. If you want to follow suit, you’ll need to understand how TikTok’s algorithm impacts your visibility on the app.

Luckily, I’ve put together a list of five TikTok algorithm tips that’ll help you boost your views. From the importance of creating a strong hook to the rise of carousel posts, use the tips I’ve outlined below to enhance your TikTok strategy for 2025.

🤔 Need a clearer understanding of how TikTok’s algorithm works? Our TikTok for Business guide will reveal all

1. Create a Strong Video Hook

Increasing watch times is a key way to boost your visibility on TikTok. If you have audiences that are watching your videos all the way through, this signals to the algorithm that your content is engaging.

The best way to increase audience watch times is by capturing their attention in the first few seconds of a video. This is where a strong hook comes in. Comparable to a snappy newsletter headline, video hooks generate immediate interest in a video and inspire audiences to watch it all the way through.

To create a strong hook, I recommend using TikTok’s text feature to your advantage. Here are a few examples you can use:

  • Start with a question to build intrigue – “Ever wondered why (x) happens?”
  • Offer eye-opening facts or stats – “Did you know about (x)?”
  • Give your audience a solution – “This one hack could change your life”
  • Initiate a list – “3 ways to improve your (x)”

2. Make Your Content SEO-Friendly

For many of its users (Gen Z audiences in particular), TikTok is used as a search engine to find the latest news, tutorials, or fun things to do. This makes SEO a crucial practice if you want your videos to be seen by more people.

The best way to make your videos SEO-friendly is by conducting keyword research and adding relevant keywords to your content. Here’s how:

  1. See what keywords users are searching for – To see what keywords are popular, I recommend checking out TikTok’s official Creative Center, or external sites like Google Trends. You can use the TikTok app to see what’s trending too. This includes looking at comment sections to see what’s being discussed, or using the search bar to see what creators in your niche are talking about.
  2. Narrow down your keywords – Once you have a better understanding of the keywords audiences are searching for, you can narrow down two to three keywords that are most relevant to your audience. Use them to guide what content you create next.
  3. Add keywords to your content – Before you post new videos, remember to optimize your content with these keywords. Add them to your caption, on-screen text, and your pinned comments.

💡 Top Tip!

When you add keywords to your TikTok content, double-check that they make sense from a user perspective. Don’t stuff in as many keywords as possible or string random words together – this may confuse audiences or make your videos appear spammy.

3. Use the Explore Feed To See What Users Are Engaging With

The videos you’ve already watched on TikTok influence what the algorithm shows you next. If you’ve watched a string of videos on fitness trends, you’re likely to see more of these videos on your feed. The same thing applies to your viewers.

To predict what kind of content your target audience has been watching, I suggest clicking on the “Explore” tab on TikTok. Then, you’ll see a list of categories ranging from “beauty care” to “food” at the top of the screen.

From there, select a category that best fits your business and see what kinds of videos are trending. Examine what hooks and sounds are commonly used, how long these videos are, what topics are covered, and when they were posted.

To maximize your reach, create content that reflects these current video trends. But remember, TikTok moves fast, so you’ll need to check what’s trending daily to keep on top of the competition.

4. Test Out TikTok Carousel Posts

In 2025, you’re likely to see a mixture of video content, ads, and carousel posts on the “For You” feed. The carousel posts are particularly interesting since they reflect an algorithm shift that boosts photo content just as much as, if not more than, video content.

Last year, TikTok even openly admitted to pushing photo posts more, stating that it could help you get 2.9x comments, 2.6x shares, and 1.9x more likes.*

If you’ve not yet experimented with carousel posts, this is your sign to give it a go. You could create listicles that offer product recommendations, share tutorials, promote a popular item, or share a candid photo dump of images from your workday.

When putting together your photos, here are a few factors to keep in mind:

  • Use the right format – Your high-resolution images should be uploaded to TikTok in JPG or PNG format, with the ideal size for carousels being 1080 x 1920 pixels with a 9:16 aspect ratio.
  • Add trending TikTok sounds – To increase your chances of being seen, you should also choose a trending sound to complement your photos.
  • Include a call to action – Carousel posts are easy to swipe through, so sneak in a strong call to action at the end to boost conversions

5. Interact With Comments As Soon as Possible

For strong engagement rates, comments can be more powerful than views or likes. Because it takes more time and effort to leave a comment under someone’s video, this shows the TikTok algorithm that users genuinely enjoy your content and want to see more.

To increase the number of comments you’re getting, here are a few tips:

  • Include questions in your content – By rounding off your TikTok videos with a question, you can inspire watchers to leave a response. For instance, if you’re a fashion brand showcasing a new pair of pants, you could ask your audience how they’d style it.
  • Ask for feedback – You could ask viewers what kind of content they’d like to see from you next, or their thoughts on a product you’ve been promoting lately.

💡 Top Tip!

As soon as your first few comments start to roll in, try to respond to them straight away. This not only shows your audience that you care about them, but it also shows TikTok that your videos are being engaged with.
