It’s that time of year again, and I’m excited to share that Website Builder Expert has officially announced its 2025 website builder rankings. This is how we determine what builders to recommend to you, based on over 300 hours of research, analysis, and hands-on testing.

Let’s dive into our findings for 2025 ⬇️

The Best Website Builders for 2025

For the tenth year in a row, Wix is the best website builder we’ve tested. It’s a great all-in-one powerhouse for personal sites and small businesses, offering a huge range of built-in features and templates.

Our top five builders haven’t changed in the last year, but the order of our list has:

  • Wix remains our top choice
  • Squarespace easily maintains its second-place ranking for 2025
  • Hostinger has seen incredible improvements, moving up from fourth place to overtake Shopify and claim third place this year
  • Shopify has dropped slightly, losing its third-place spot to Hostinger, but remains the best option for selling online
  • GoDaddy holds its position from last year’s testing in our top five list

Plus, builders have rolled out new tools and updates, which has helped shape our recommendations this year. See how Wix compares to our top five website builders in the table below:

Our Research Findings

In 2025, we’ve reviewed and compared 12 of the leading website builders by putting them through our thorough research process. This also involves surveying 500 small businesses, which defines the categories we want to investigate, and hands-on testing with each builder to ensure we can speak from experience when writing about a platform and its features.

Every writer who reviews and recommends website builders on Website Builder Expert has completed this hands-on testing process.

So, what does this look like? For website builders, that’s seven key categories and 36 subcategories, making up 207 individual areas of investigation. For ecommerce, we look at eight key categories (adding sales features into the mix) and 51 subcategories, making up 283 individual areas of investigation.
